I offer a humanistic intervention which means that I operate on the assumption that every one is ultimately a good person and we are all in need of some understanding and a bit of authentic and empathetic support at times.
I hold that wellness is achieved by increasing self awareness while supporting an appreciation of the interconnectedness of the mind, the body, the spirit, the community, and the family.
Individual Therapy is helpful for a wide array of goals ranging from increasing wellness or happiness to overcoming a difficulty. The therapeutic encounter can look very different depending on what the client is asking for. I have experience both in working with diagnosis and with offering interventions that are not in need of psychiatric labels… It is my position that the client should collaborate in deciding which intervention would be most helpful.
I have experience working within a mental health center and am therefore practiced in offering interventions aimed at addressing mental health concerns such as anxiety or depression. For some the goal might be to alleviate the symptoms of a given diagnosis, and for others the goal might simply be to have therapeutic support surrounding a chronic mental or physical health concern.
I have a deep appreciation of the gifts that arrive from reducing existential anxiety (anxiety surrounding meaning or meaninglessness),from increasing self awareness (learning more about how we have the tendency to react automatically to certain stimuli), from listening to our body (often our physiology can help guide us, and other times it’s message can be deceptive), and from allowing one’s self a safe and empathetic place to look at the life that has been and is being lived.
Some come to therapy to grow, some come to fix something, some come to learn something about themselves, some come for support, some come for a good listener, some come for authentic reflection, some come for hope, and some come to find meaning… whatever the reason might be, I am available to offer unconditional acceptance and support.
